Larosiere: Gun Rights Aren’t Safe in a Trump Presidency

Mr. Trump and the Republican Party at large haven’t done gun owners any favors. The administration has managed to ban possession of “bump stocks” by administrative fiat, making felons out of tens of thousands of gun owners overnight. It also supported state efforts to implement red flag laws, restrict the gun rights of young adults, and threatened gun owners with domestic surveillance and unconstitutional seizures. So much for that “crashing end” to the assault on the Second Amendment. Mr. Obama’s administration, on the other hand, relaxed prohibitions on carrying firearms on federal land, and made it easier for people to acquire NFA items like suppressors and machine guns. Of course, it wasn’t all good. The administration also crac...  Read More

Impeachment Probe Can Derail ‘Gun Deal’ — if White House Lets It

Read more: Under Creative Commons License: Attribution Follow us: @Ammoland on Twitter | Ammoland on Facebook U.S.A. – -( “Impeachment probe puts federal gun law deal in limbo,” The Connecticut Post reported Thursday. “New federal gun laws may be an early casualty of the enmity between President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats who have just launched an impeachment probe of the president.” That was my reaction two days earlier after seeing the blaring headlines on Drudge. “It looks like ‘universal background checks’ and ‘red flag laws’ are on the back burner,” I surmised.  Even so, noting that Mr. Trump ...  Read More

War Is Coming!!! Are You Ready … Will You Fight?

Read more: Under Creative Commons License: Attribution Follow us: @Ammoland on Twitter | Ammoland on Facebook USA – -( Most of us don’t want a second Civil War, though many of us will fight, and a very few even think war is a good idea. But the obvious question is what would it look like? The answer is nothing like the last civil war. I polished off a bottle of McCallum 25 with a couple of old friends who think about this stuff for a living. You’d like these guys, bright, inventive; each kept up at night by their serious jobs. The causes of the last Civil War were economic. Tariffs on products coming into and leaving southern por...  Read More

President Trump & Congressional GOP Must Stand Strong to Protect the 2A

While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.” ~ Samuel Adams, American Statesman, political philosopher, and one of the founding fathers; from his letter to James Warren, February 12, 1779 “Are we at last b...  Read More

Congressional Dems: Red Flag Confiscations Are Good for Joe Sixpack, but Not for Gang Members

It’s getting increasingly difficult to determine whether congressional Democrats and their party’s current crop of presidential candidates are actively trying to antagonize America’s great middle or are just trolling those of us who care about and value the right to keep and bear arms. Then again, come to think of it, there’s no reason they couldn’t be actively trying to do both. Last week saw an obscure former congressman from west Texas trying to resuscitate his failing presidential campaign via the liberal use of on-air f-bombs and threats to confiscate some of Americans’ favorite firearms. “Beto” succeeded in getting lots of ink and electrons spilled in his direction, though many — even some in his own party — think that all he rea...  Read More

3 Ways to Make Your 1911 .45 ACP Pistol More Reliable

The 1911 .45 ACP combat pistol, invented by John Moses Browning, set the groundwork for most modern pistols. It’s a trusted combat handgun that has been used in more theaters of combat than any other weapon. The 1911 is still a popular choice as a self-defense/carry gun to this day, especially for concealed carry due to its slim profile. So why does the pistol have a reputation for reliability issues? Despite its distinguished pedigree and extensive military service, the 1911s that you can buy from Wilson Combat, Kimber, STI or even Ruger, and Springfield Armory aren’t the same 1911 that was originally manufactured by Colt. Small variations in manufacturing and assembly can cause some issues, but there are ways to minimize or completel...  Read More

Should You Suppress a Home-Defense Gun?

Read more: Under Creative Commons License: Attribution Follow us: @Ammoland on Twitter | Ammoland on Facebook USA – -( Just a year or two ago things were looking up for suppressors. With the Hearing Protection Act written and in the legislative works, a semi-friendly House of Representatives and Senate, and the White House seemingly friendly towards signing a bill, things seemed positive for getting suppressors out of NFA jail. No more tax stamps, photos, fingerprints, body probes, and year-long waits just to make your gun run quieter. Then, politicians did the politician dance, meaning they didn’t do a damn thing except fundraise and s...  Read More

The Facts About Rifles and Crime

Read more: Under Creative Commons License: Attribution Follow us: @Ammoland on Twitter | Ammoland on Facebook United States – -( When it comes to our Second Amendment rights, one major flashpoint seems to be over the modern multi-purpose semiautomatic firearms, particularly the AR-15. Now, for those of us who are familiar with Justice Department statistics, we know that rifles are rarely used in murders – in fact, you’re more at risk from fists and feet – 696 to 403 in 2017, the last full year of stats available at this writing. In fact, the total number of people killed by rifles of ALL types (not just the AR-15 that people like Beto O’Rourk...  Read More

Treating on Equal Terms: Gun Rights Beyond the Second Amendment

Gun rights are fundamentally about the balance of power between rulers and ruled, not questions of constitutional interpretation. For the purposes of this essay, I propose to set aside the constitutional questions surrounding gun ownership, questions, that is, about the meaning of the Second Amendment. Among contemporary gun rights activists and gun enthusiasts, there is a pronounced overemphasis and overreliance on these words: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” For my part, I find this sentence to be of indeterminate meaning, nonspecific and even vague. More importantly, though, I don’t believe that these words, whate...  Read More
